Introduction to Biblical and Talmudic literature

The objective of the course:

1. Analysis of the development of the Torah shebealPe and the Torah sheBichtav, illmination of their theological basis and analysis of the major units of the two bodies of text.

2. Introduction to the contentual, spiritual, formal and stylistic connections between the Torah shebealPe and the Torah sheBichtav.

Realization of the objective:

1. We introduce the topographical, historical and spiritual background of the Torah shebealPe and the Torah sheBichtav according to syllabi handed out in the beginning of the academic year and using various face-to-face teaching methods, first and foremost of multimedia. The third semester is primarily devoted to the study of the Torah and the Nach, the fourth to the study of the Mishna, Gemara and post-Talmudic literature.

2. We supplement the theoretical material students have already learned with video recordings of the topographical environment and milieu, view the Biblical, post-Biblical or post-Talmudic musical literature of different ages and discuss these in the framework of a seminar, if possible – primarily at the summer camp at Szarvas.

3. Students take colloquia at the end of both semesters.
